Solitary Afternoon

In the midst of all these warm and fuzzy mothering, I also had to rush to complete my very very long overdue dissertation. Which is almost impossible to finish if I am at home with the kids. By their bedtime, I am deadbeat and all I want to do is to chill out with Hubby, watching a home movie or something.

Which is why this afternoon, I opted not to go for lunch with the family and the in-laws. So that I can have some time poring over those thick research and hitting the keyboard real hard.

It is a stillness and tranquillity I had not experienced in my own home for a long long time - in bright daylight! Sitting at the desk in front of the window, ears tuned to the sounds of chirping birds hidden within the luxuriant leaves of the many overhanging trees, with the occasional jarring yet soothing rhythmic sounds of the grass cutting machine and feeling the gentle caress of the warm afternoon breeze on my face...it certainly is quite an afternoon delight!

Sometimes, we just need to have some totally solitary me-time, not needing to talk aloud, just conversing silently with those thoughts in our minds. So rejuvenating!

Now, back to more academic drudgery again....
