Learning To Read

Little Bee learning to read at 3 years 4 months

This was Little Bee learning to read last month from amateurish-looking flashcards that I created for the theme on plants. She thrives a lot on positive reinforcement, hence my over-exuberant exclamations! That is her learning style. If we tell her she is wrong, she will usually lose all interest in the activities we are working on. Hence, it can get challenging for more academic-based activities where the line between right and wrong is more apparent.

Eh she is SUPER cute lei.... Very cooperative too haha!
How come you let her eat on your bed? Are you not scared of ants???

viv: Heh, thanks. She is only cooperative when she wants to, and I suspect in this case, she was cajoled by the cookie! She was munching on a cookie with a plate underneath her, so won't drop the crumbs all over.

Hmmm when I was still teaching, I sometimes just suggested the correct answer instead of saying the kid was wrong, and avoided saying stuff like "no", " wrong" etc. Perhaps that might work?

Popping by for the first time and I have to say your daughter is ultra-cute! She looks so pleased to get the words right.

Good job on your homelearning!

Jus: Thanks for a great suggestion! I think recommending them the correct answer may be a good way to reinforce their learning :)

Daphne: Yes, she does get a sense of achievement as she reads the right flashcards correctly - but when she gets it wrong and I correct her...it's another angry expression!

YM: Thanks! These are easy, fuss free ways to teach writing. But like I told you, I have to start teaching phonics soon, unfortunately!
