K1 Progress

I went for Little Bee's K1 parent teacher talk last Tuesday, and was pleasantly surprised to hear what the teacher had to say about her progress in K1. Big Bee's form teacher was gushing about how sociable she is and how she loves show and tell, never failing to provide a long, enthusiastic and elaborate articulation about the item she brings every week. That is the extroverted, gregarious girl we always know she is.

One thing that worries me is her constant chattering, as she can yak incessantly at home. However, I was quite surprised to learn that she tends to listen attentively in class and does her work very diligently - which is very different from home! I am glad she knows she is now in K1, and am trying her best to be a big little girl :)

She copywrote this in class...she is very into writing now, having written her first journal entry yesterday, despite it being a simple "I go to class today." Haha.

One of her first pieces of work in K1

Just the other day, she received a certificate of good behaviour from her usual Friday assembly in school, which stated:

"Congratulations! You've been speaking to your friends with nice words and have also been using a pleasant tone even when reminding your friends what the classroom rules are. We love that!"

Little bossy girl who turns nice and sweet - but yet never failing to display her quiescent assertiveness in class, haha!

Her Chinese teacher displayed the same gushing tone when talking about what a little chatterbox Little Bee is. But the key difference I found since she stepped over the threshold of K1 is that she is now a lot more willing to converse in Mandarin, and will make the extra effort to speak in Mandarin. And I attribute this marked improvement to her affable Chinese teacher, who could not conceal how pleased she was when she related how Little Bee constantly hugs her teacher in class. This is our Little Bee again - always demonstrating conspicuous signs of affection for whoever she loves. I hope this trait remains with her forever!

Despite being almost a year younger than most of her older classmates, despite being the youngest in class, despite being a mere month older than most N2 kids, I am secretly very relieved she has settled into the more academic rigours of K1. Her conscientious nature is displayed very clearly at home, with her always uttering what she learned in school and practising it at home, and always rushing to finish up her homework in time - with no complains and a whole load of optimism.

Keep it up, my little sunshine gal :)

Wow, Little Bee's school has parent-teacher session after just two months of school? Do they do this every term?

Shirley: Yes, their parent teacher talks started since N1, and are usually conducted once a term, which means 4 times a year :) On top of this, they also have a parent communication book that allows parents and teachers to write little notes to each other about the child's progress (or issues) anytime!
